Matt Taylor
Sr. Coach
Matt Taylor's connection with hockey ignited when he first stepped onto the ice in Chicago, an experience that changed his life forever. He played through high school, embracing the sport's challenges and opportunities.
His journey took him to Memphis, where he became part of the Memphis Eagles 18U AA travel hockey club. Traveling across the country for games and tournaments, these years fueled not just his personal development but also shaped his perspective on life.
Matt continued his hockey adventures in Texas during college, playing in various adult men's league programs. Upon moving to California, his passion for the game persisted as he engaged in men's leagues, pickup hockey, and roller hockey in San Diego.
The pivotal moment arrived when Matt's son entered the hockey scene. Enrolling in the LA Kings Learn to Play Hockey program in 2016, Matt observed the excitement of kids learning the game, sparking his interest in coaching.
Volunteering with the Penguins Mite Program in Escondido from 2016 to 2018, Matt's coaching journey evolved. In 2019, he joined SDIA Oilers, marking the beginning of a new chapter. Volunteering with Mites 2 in 2019 and Mites 1 in 2020 alongside Coach Mike Langridge, Matt found his coaching niche.
In the fall of 2020, Matt embraced the role of Head Coach for the Mites 6 team at SDIA. The 2020-2021 season has been a rewarding experience, and he eagerly anticipates the ongoing growth and development of each player in the 8U and beyond at SDIA. Matt Taylor's transition from a player to a dedicated coach reflects his commitment to fostering a vibrant hockey community at SDIA.
