Corwin Nycholat

Sr. Coach

Corwin Nycholat's hockey journey began on the icy streets and ponds of Calgary, Canada, where he developed a profound passion for the game. Having a front-row seat to the Flames-Oilers Battle of Alberta, Corwin immersed himself in hockey from a young age. His playing career saw him traverse from AA through Bantam and Midget, eventually reaching the Junior B level in Calgary, accumulating over 40 years of valuable hockey experience.


Transitioning into coaching, Corwin brings a wealth of knowledge to San Diego Ice Arena (SDIA). As a coach at SDIA for three years, he has been actively involved in coaching co-ed hockey at the 8U, 10U, and 12U levels. Corwin fosters a positive learning environment, challenging players to step out of their comfort zones to develop fundamental skills and a deep understanding of the game.


In his coaching philosophy, Corwin places a strong emphasis on hard work, teamwork, and instilling respect for the game in his players. Holding the title of a Level 3 USA Hockey coach, he is committed to the holistic development of young athletes under his guidance.


Currently serving as the Head Coach for the 2020-21 SDIA SCAHA 12U B/BB team, Corwin Nycholat remains dedicated to advancing player development, imparting his vast hockey experience to nurture the next generation of players.
